December 30th, 2022 Uncategorized

Pinnacle Rehabilitation Network is proud to announce the addition of two new partners. Stephen Sollowin PT,DPT and Tammy Nguyen PT, DPT have been named partner and will head up the renamed Weymouth Physical Therapy office (formally Blue Hills Physical Therapy Weymouth). Stephen and Tammy both grew up in Weymouth and were classmates at Weymouth High School. Both are very excited to be business owners  back in the community where they grew up.

Stephen has been with Pinnacle serving as manager of the Weymouth office, and Tammy recently joined the group under the partner in training program. The partner in training program specifically identifies and develops those who wish to be a clinic owner so they are prepared to seize that opportunity when it becomes available. Pinnacle Co-President Dan Fleury says  “We are very excited to see the continued success of our partner in training program in the coming years. We have several more in training that will be able to take advantage of our anticipated growth in the coming years. The next generation of entrepreneurs in our organization will be some of the best clinical and business trained physical therapists in the country. We are really spearheading the movement of practicing at the top of our license, and to successfully do that, advanced clinical, patient management, and business operations training is a must. In addition to partners, we have added several Orthopedic Clinical Specialists (OCS) and Fellowship trained (FAAOMPT) teammates to our ranks”.

We are excited to announce the addition of two more APTA Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialists. We are very proud of Cecile Younes of Portsmouth Physical Therapy in Portsmouth, NH , and Andrew Destefano of Blue Hills Braintree office for achieving this professional milestone. We congratulate them, and thank them for being part of Pinnacle’s mission of clinical excellence.

The American Physical Therapy Association states ” Orthopedic specialization within the physical therapy profession refers to the prevention of disability and the physical rehabilitation of persons with disability resulting from dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system and its related neurovascular components. The practice concentrates both on actual and potential dysfunction of physical capacity and movement. The orthopedic clinical specialist uses advanced techniques and methods to assist the patient toward optimal function through corrective, adaptive, and prophylactic management of the neuromusculoskeletal system.”

Blue Hills Sports and Spine Rehabilitation is now Blue Hills Physical Therapy!

Blue Hills Sports and Spine Rehabilitation’s fresh new look!

If you have visited our Blue Hills locations recently, you may have noticed some things looked different! After fifteen years of business it was time for a fresh new look. We wanted to maintain the historic familiarity of our very recognizable logo but give it a modern twist. With the help of our friends at Loud Canvas Media, we were able to effectively mesh the old with the new and rebrand from Blue Hills Sports and Spine Rehabilitation to Blue Hills Physical Therapy. The Plymouth office has kept the Sports and Spine as part of their name due to their strong sports rehabilitation focus. We also upgraded our outdated website platform. Our new and intuitive website better represents who we are– highlighting our staff, their unique talents, and each clinic’s unique approach to care.
Our most notable new implementation is our change in name, replacing the word rehabilitation for physical therapy. Merriam Webster defines rehabilitation as “the action, process, or result of rehabilitating or of being rehabilitated: such as the restoration especially by therapeutic means to an improved condition of physical wellbeing: the process of restoring a person to a drug- or alcohol-free stats, the process of restoring someone (such as a criminal) to a useful and constructive place in society; the restoration of something damaged or deteriorated to a prior good condition.” In contrast, the American Physical Therapy Association defines physical therapy as “therapy for the preservation, enhancement, or restoration of movement and physical function impaired or threatened by disease, injury, or disability that utilizes therapeutic exercise, physical modalities, assistive devices, and patient education and training.”
We felt the modern use of the word rehabilitation did not accurately describe our breadth of services and instead detracted from our emphasis in the restoration of physical function. The term rehabilitation fails to recognize the essential facets of our role as educator, facilitator, health coach, performance enhancer, and injury preventer. As our profession has grown and evolved to be at the forefront of injury prevention and management, our new name now accurately reflects our active approach to physical wellness, as opposed to passively intervening after an injury has occurred.
We hope you find our new logo appealing and the website useful. As we value providing the most up to date and evidence based treatment, we plan to continue to elevate and improve upon our physical plants and staff skills. Stay tuned for updated equipment and further credentials

Pinnacle partners were pleasantly surprised when Eric Combs and Bob Worden arrived to the annual partner meeting carrying several boxes of awards. There were awards from a local food pantry, Lions Club, and the local Rotary to name a few. The awards were plentiful but the message theme remained the same in each case. The awards were engraved with words of gratitude form the community such as  “Thank you for your dedication to our community”, or ” We appreciate your generosity”. These words were repeated over and over as Bob and Eric told the background story behind each award.

Hospitals Must Post Prices!

November 6th, 2018 News, Uncategorized

It is no secret that hospitals not only charge high prices for services, but they are also paid highly for those services!  Analyzing data from medical cost transparency website mymedicalshopper.com, comparing a physical therapy evaluations performed in an independent outpatient clinic vs. hospital affiliated clinics, the difference is a staggering!  The paid claims are 150% to 300% higher in the hospital setting!!!! Don’t believe us? Check for yourself by logging onto www.mymedicalshopper.com. Keep in mind the numbers you see are paid claims not billed charges.

The argument used by hospitals is that their charges are meaningless because charges are inflated to adjust for contractual discounts with insurance companies. This doesn’t explain away why they are paid so much more for the same or inferior service and outcomes! They also claim higher reimbursements are to cover the hospitals high costs to provide service or to cover uninsured. The argument that the tax benefits and higher reimbursements awarded to hospitals are to ” care for those who cant pay”, is a farce.

In case you haven’t noticed, it appears these hospitals are using the additional revenue for competitive purposes. Specifically look at the Seacoast area of New Hampshire where the hospitals are building massive buildings with repetitive services. In many cases these places are right on top of each other in an attempt to gain territory and market share. What I see unfolding is similar to gas stations or pharmacies opening directly across the road form each other! Unlike the gas station example, the additional competition does nothing to drive prices or costs down. In fact it appears to have the opposite effect!

Finally the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is now requiring hospitals to post their charges! You will now have some level of transparency in what hospitals are charging for services. Not only will you be able to shop services and compare hospital to hospital, you’ll be able to compare hospital to private clinics! This ruling was heavily fought by the hospital lobbyists in an attempt to further keep patients in the dark. It appears on the surface at least that somebody is following the dollar and is starting to look at real reasons behind the rising cost of care!
